15 Minute Code – Scratch Taco Magic

Welcome to the first in our ’15 Minute Code’ series. In these articles, we hope to inspire some short, snappy activities that can be completed as part of a morning task, in between lessons or during a quick brain break.

Today we are working with Scratch, which is one of the best coding platforms for children to start out with.

In our example code, we are using the ‘switch costume to’ block to change the taco’s appearance.

To add an extra dash of magical flare, we created a third costume, which looked like stars flashing on the screen.

Having the code switch between the taco costume and the star costume over and over again really quickly gave a magical look to the video.

Here’s a before and after shot of our transforming taco.

In our Scratch program, Taco transformed into a Wizard at the click of a button.
